Why Choose a Christian School? Dear Parent, On September 11, 2001, one of my main concerns throughout that chaotic and tragic day was for my sons. The oldest was away at college and the youngest was in high school. Knowing that they surely had heard of the attack, I prayed for their peace of mind. Within a short time, the oldest one called me at work to tell me his classes had all been cancelled. The professors had told the students they could get counseling if they wanted to talk and encouraged all of them to call someone they knew would listen and help them process what had happened. I spent an hour on the phone with my son sharing faith and reassurance. I did not get to talk to my youngest son until late that afternoon, and I worried all day how he, his teachers and classmates were reacting. When he got home, he immediately began asking questions: Why would someone do this? Would we have a nuclear war? How could such an evil thing happen in our country? Why did the terrorists hate us so much? He said little had happened in class that day, and students and teachers discussed and debated these questions endlessly. As much as I admired the school's efforts to comfort and reassure the students, I knew that the most important fact could not be shared by public school officials: No matter what evil had been thrust upon us that day, God was still in control of our lives, our country, and our salvation. This anecdote serves to reinforce the difference a Christian school environment makes in the education and life of a child. A Christian school draws its children and parents together every day and in time of crisis to address problems with Christ's love, hope and encouragement. Instead of children having to call their parents or wait to talk to them until after school hours, a Christian school will immediately provide the loving and nurturing environment for all adults to immediately help parents begin the healing process. When that opportunity is available, children are strengthened in faith instead of being left with questions. Their confidence is restored, and they are able to learn more effectively. That, quite simply, is the mission of Immanuel Christian Academy: to provide a loving, nurturing Christian atmosphere which reinforces the values of Christian families so that children can focus on learning and become Godly leaders of the future who are sought out for their wisdom. Thank you for your interest in Immanuel Christian Academy. I am very excited about the opening and future success of our school's students!
